We are the Champions

Cornwall-based Fred Champion Groundworks Ltd has invested in a significant number of new Hitachi hydraulic excavators as part of its fleet replacement programme.

Champion Groundworks is one of the largest and most-respected groundworks contractors in the South West, working for a large number of national blue-chip housing developers and today employs in excess of 350 employees working across sites in Cornwall and Devon. The business along with its plant hire and scaffolding divisions generates an annual turnover of £70 million.

The new Hitachi fleet comprises 4 x Zaxis 130LC-6, 4 x Zaxis 210LC-6 and 1 x Zaxis 250LC-6. They have been supplied and will be serviced by newly- established company JAW Hire, which is also based in Liskeard. The company has forged a partnership with Hitachi Construction Machinery UK to deliver Hitachi products into the South West of the country.

The company has historically run a mixed fleet of manufacturers’ machines over the years, but the investment in Hitachi is seen as an exciting prospect for the company and the operators who will get to run these machines on site.

Talking about their decision to purchase Hitachi, Managing Director Fred Champion said, “It’s fantastic to have invested in such a well-known brand and we look forward to seeing the machines out on site”.

With the new machines now being delivered to the contractor’s active sites, the future is definitely looking orange for Fred Champion Groundworks.
