National equipment and crane hire firm Hewden, has expanded its specialist lighting tower business with the addition of three new sustainable solutions, designed to minimise fuel consumption and CO₂ emissions, whilst dramatically reducing running costs for customers.

The new models entering Hewden’s portfolio include the Trime X-Eco, the Generac VT Hybrid and the Generac VB9 Eco lighting towers.  Kumar Bhamidipati, Director, Asset & Procurement at Hewden believes the investment acts as a testament to Hewden’s commitment to deliver sustainable hire equipment, in particular through the use of hybrid power sources.

“Earlier this year, we made the strategic acquisition of Firefly’s rental business, to help deliver sustainable, hybrid power to work sites across the country. This investment into sustainable lighting solutions, further builds on that commitment, ensuring that Hewden is at the forefront of providing sustainable equipment nationwide,” said Kumar.

The Generac VT Hybrid lighting tower features 4 x 120W LED floodlights and can provide up to 640 hours run time on a single tank of fuel. It is powered by a rechargeable battery with a running time of 9 hours, during which the lighting tower operates without any noise or emissions. The hybrid setup means that customers can get an 86% reduction in CO₂ emissions and fuel costs, with an average saving of £396 per month compared to standard lighting towers.

Similarly the Trime X-Eco features 6 x 150W LED floodlights and a significant reduction in CO₂ emissions, with 50,000 hours of light provided without the need for replacement bulbs.

The Generac VB9 offers CO₂ reductions up to 75% and is able to run 4 x 300W LED floodlights for 300 hours before needing to be refueled.

“Whether it’s for an industrial project, event or construction site, lighting solutions are critical to our industry,” added Kumar.  “With shorter days coming, lighting becomes even more important to ensure that our customers get the job done safely, on time and on budget. The savings we can pass onto the customer will also brighten up their day.”
