Marubeni-Komatsu reports that Komatsu America has used the ConExpo 2014 show to launch nine new machines into the US market, as well as showing off the new expanded range of Bulldozers with Intelligent Machine Control (IMC). Some of these machines will be making their way over to this side of ‘the pond’ later this year.
The Komatsu machines launched at the show include a number of models that feature EPA Tier 4 Final compliant engines for reduced emissions. This US standard is similar to the new EU Stage IV regulation on engine emissions. The most eye catching of these compliant machines is the new 22 tonne Hybrid Excavator, the HB215LC-2. This is the third generation of the successful Hybrid Excavator, which was first introduced to the World in 2008. The new Hybrid boasts further fuel savings, without compromising performance and lift capacity. Coupled with a more comfortable, quieter cab and easier serviceability, the new Hybrid Excavator is bound to build on the success (over 2,500 sold Worldwide so far) of its predecessors.
Continuing on the EPA Tier 4 Final theme, the show has seen the launch of the first of the Dash 11 range of Excavators. The 25 tonne PC240LC-11 and 48 tonne PC490LC-11. These replace the existing Dash 10 models. . Other new EPA Tier 4 machines on show included a HM300 Articulated Dump Truck, the 5 tonne PC55MR Excavator, the 8 tonne PC88MR Excavator, plus the 21 tonne D65EX/PX/WX-18 and 40 tonne D155AX-8 Bulldozers.
All EU Stage IV compliant machines are offered with KomatsuCARE, which provides complimentary scheduled maintenance for the first three years or 2,000 hours operation of the machine (whichever occurs first.). Plus all these machines come with Komtrax fitted as standard. This remote monitoring technology, provides machine owners with valuable data such as fuel levels, fuel consumption, working hours, machine location, plus cautions and maintenance alerts. This data which can be accessed via a secure website, allows owners to get the most out of their machine and to easily schedule maintenance.
Perhaps the most exciting and most eagerly awaited debut at the show is the new expanded range of Bulldozers with Intelligent Machine Control (IMC) that we featured in our recent ConExpo Countdown show. The first of these the D61EXi/PXi 18 tonne Bulldozer was introduced last year and due to its success, Komatsu have now introduced three further models with IMC.
Along with the existing 18 tonne D61EXi/PXi Bulldozer, there is now the 8 tonne D37EXi/PXi-23, 10 tonne D39EXi/PXi-23 and the 13 tonne D51EXi/PXi-22. The IMC machine control system improves the efficiency of dozer operations, resulting in less dozing time and less wear and tear on the machine. The IMC is incorporated into the design of the machine and is factory fitted. This technology helps even less experienced operators perform top quality work. These new models show the confidence in the technology and point the way for the future direction of the construction industry.
