Harringtons Builders PLC of Wembley Middlesex continues to build its fleet of Volvo excavators with the addition of another fourteen tonne EC140E.

The latest arrival joins five existing EC140D models and two EC220Ds which are less than three years old as well as an EC140E purchased just last year. Yet Harrington Builders are no strangers to owning and operating Volvo excavators.

“We used to run the B and C versions going back ten years or so and found them to be very reliable and liked by our operators,” says Managing Director Tony Harrington. “The latest machines are equally impressive too and are still appreciated by our operators in terms of driver comfort and smooth operation besides their digging and lifting performance.”

The new EC140E is powered by four cylinder Stage IV compliant Volvo engine developing 122 nett hp and offers the latest in engine technology and operating sophistication. For example pump flow is controlled for combined digging and swinging operations to reduce the flow loss through the overload relief valves, whilst maintaining digging power and maximum swing torque. When Eco mode is selected the machine provides better fuel efficiency without loss of performance in most operating conditions.

The Volvo Care Cab offers a large roomy interior with plenty of leg room and foot space. The excellent all round visibility is enhanced by pressurised and filtered cab air supplied by a 14 vent, climate control system. An adjustable easy to read LCD colour monitor provides real time information of the machine functions, important diagnostic information and a wide variety of work tool settings. The monitor also doubles as a monitor for the rear view camera. And to satisfy a growing demand for all round 360º
vision the latest recruit has been installed with an optional birds eye or overview system provided by Vision Techniques which joins an extra four cameras strategically positioned on the machine providing the operator all round vision via a dedicated monitor screen.

The EC140E is the optimal tool for much of the typical contracts undertaken by Harringtons Builders PLC in terms of its size for transporting and its digging geometry. The machine has a forward reach of 8.85 metres, a dig depth of just over 6.0 metres and a practical load over height of 6.3 metres when equipped with the standard 3.0m dipper arm. It also demonstrates excellent stability across carriage with a lifting capacity of 1860kg at full reach and at 1.5m above ground level.
