An explosion in an industrial unit in Norfolk that left two men dead was probably caused by a fireball, police have said.

Post-mortem examinations on Barry Joy, 56, and Daniel Timbers, 29, found both men died from the effects of fire and a build-up of toxic fumes following Monday’s blast at digger bucket manufacturer Harford Attachments in Norwich.

Detective Chief Inspector Paul Durham, from the Norfolk and Suffolk major investigation team, said “significant progress” had been made through forensic inquiries and witness statements.

He said: “Evidence gathered so far suggests there has been a flash over explosion which occurs when you have a build-up of toxic fumes; this combined with some sort of ignition has caused a fireball effect.”
